A variety of factors can cause timing belt tensioner or idler failure. Bearing life is limited by wear, misalignment, loss of lubricant and ingress of wear particles. Most of these factors can not be determined by a visual inspection so it is always best to replace all tensioners and idlers as part of a timing belt replacement. This is recommended by most car manufacturers to be done at the 100,000km service.
We have put together kits for many different types of high performance / import cars.
- OEM’s recommended as part of normal preventative maintenance
- Preventative maintenance should address all forms of failure
- After 100,000km tensioners are more likely to fail
- Labour costs associated with belt replacements are expensive, so it makes economic sense to replace all components at the same time
- A worn or loose pulley can cause problems
- Normal tensions cannot be maintained to assure proper life of replacement belts
- Internal bearing wear is not noticeable
